The Promote Option

The Promote function imports data from a set of locally known remote UDF archives sites. The know archives are found in the ClientInfo file in the $UDF_HOME/Archives directory. Data can be imported by specifing the PMEIV and an optional time range.

To be able to promote data, the local system must have the UDF client software package installed. This package is included as part of the UDF Basic Install and should generally be present on all systems. What data is to be promoted is selected from the DATA, VIDF and PIDF buttons to the right of the display area.

To reduce the scope of the promote first use the PMEIV options to limit which UDF data definitions are to be promoted and then use the time options to limit time time range over which the data is to be promoted. Selecting for example only a PROJECT will import all of the files under that project. Selection or all of the PMEIV files will limit the files considered for promotion to those of a specific virtual instrument.

Next use the time options to specifiy a time range over which the files should be promoted. If no time range is selected then all times are considered. Not all of the time fields need to be specified. Entering only a beginning YEAR will promote data which have times greater than or equal to that year. Selecting only an ending time will promote data which have times less than or equal to that year. Selecting both a beginning an ending YEAR will promote data which have times which fall between the two years (including the selected years). The more fields which are specified in the time the more restrictive the time filtering becomes. To reset the time fields clicking on the RESET button to the right of the fields.

NOTE: Promote will not import data which it finds currently online. If you want to replace a current data set for some reason you need to delete it before promoting it.
