THE GME PLOT APPLICATION

Overview

The GME plot application is a joint analysis tool for working with inversions of images produced from the Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV), High Energy Neutral Atom (HENA), and Medium Energy Neutral Atom (MENA) experiments onboard the IMAGE satellite. The inversions provide 2D spatial mappings of the He+ density and energetic ion flux in the geomagnetic equatorial plane (SM coordiantes). MENA inversions can be separated into a maximum of 4 energy steps while HENA inversions can be separated into a maximum of 6 energy steps and 3 mass ranges. The application sets up a linked set of user selected mapping plots on a common spatial scale which can be queried to give the ion spectra at any location. In addition the spectra can be both fit and intergrated to give the ion density and temperature.

The application is run from a front end User Interface through which all the options are set. The options can be saved and then recalled for later usage. The application is run as: GMEPlot . MenuFile is the optional name of a saved set of menu options. If a menufile is included the GMEPlot GUI menu will be brought up with the entries preset to the saved options otherwise it will be brought up filled with default and empty selections. The options are described in the next section.
