Starting The ADump Program

The ADump program can be started in one of two methods: as a batch process or as an interactive process. As an interactive process the program runs under the GMENU Control Panel which allows preexisting or empty menu skeletons to be loaded and modified before being handed off to the ADump program. As a batch process, ADump used command line arguments to get a predefined plot menu and other pertinent information. Both run modes are discussed below, but the bulk of this document will concern itself with the interactive mode and the menu options available through it.

Batch Mode

When a menu file exists, the ADump program can be run in batch mode by issuing the command:

ADump [Menu File] {BY BD BHH BMM BSS EY EB EHH EMM ESS}

where the command line inputs are:

Input Status Definition
Menu File Necessary Filled in ADump Menu File Name
BY Optional Replaces Plot Beginning Year Field in Menu File
BD Optional Replaces Plot Beginning Day Field in Menu File
BHH Optional Replaces Plot Beginning Hour Field in Menu File
BMM Optional Replaces Plot Beginning Minute Field in Menu File
BSS Optional Replaces Plot Beginning Second Field in Menu File
EY Optional Replaces Plot Ending Year Field in Menu File
ED Optional Replaces Plot Ending Day Field in Menu File
EHH Optional Replaces Plot Ending Hour Field in Menu File
EMM Optional Replaces Plot Ending Minute Field in Menu File
ESS Optional Replaces Plot Ending Second Field in Menu File

The Menu File must have been previously created in an interactive session. The optional timing information will replace the beginning and ending times in the menu file and when specified must be given in its entirety (all components must be given).

Interactive Mode

To either create a menu file or to modify an existing menu file, the ADump program must be run as an interactive process. This is done through the GMENU Control Panel . Invoke the Control Panel. This brings up the window:

This is the basic GMENU Control Panel displayed using the default preferences.

To create a ADump menu file from scratch, click on the Find Menu option. This brings up the Find Menu window. In this window:

The file name NEW_ADUMP has been entered into both the Load Menu and Save To entry boxes in the Control Panel. You can enter menu file names directly into the Load Menu entry box giving full path names where necessary. When manually entering a menu file name hit return to echo its name to the Save To entry box and then modify the file name if the menu is to be saved to a file other than the original file. At this point it is a good idea to change the Save To file name to something more descriptive to what is to be plotted.

With the Save To filename changed click on the Load button at the top of the Control Panel. This has two actions: First the Control Panel expands to:

adding the Run buttons which allows ADump to be launched directly from the Control Panel and adding the one menu page in NEW_ADUMP to the menu page list to the scroll boxes at the bottom. Second it pops up the leading window in the loaded menu.
