1-D Cut Definition Menu

Clicking on the 1-D Cut button in the Contour Definition Menu brings up the menu:

The menu defines up to 4 1-D cuts through the generated contour plot.

The contour intensity along each cut is plotted in a separate plot which is output together with the contour plot. The scaling used in the cut plot is defined in the last column of the Axis Definition Menu.

Top Section Menu Options

Plot Pos

PLOT POS defines where the plot containing the 1D Cuts is to be placed relative to the contour plot. The options are:

Option Definition
BOTTOM The 1D Cut plot is placed below the contour plot.
RIGHT The 1D Cut plot is placed to the right of the contour plot.

In general either plot placement can be used, however, cuts which have little or no variation in X should be plotted to the right of the contour and cuts which have little of no variation in Y should be plotted below the contour. The reason for this is that the plot axes of the cut plot which is parallel to the contour plot has the same scaling as that as contour axis.

Plot %

METHOD specifies the size of the cut plot in terms of the contour plot. A value of 100 will produce a cut plot which is the same size as the contour plot. A value of 25 will produce a cut plot whose height (cut plot on bottom) or width (cut plot on side) is 25% of contour height or width respectively.

Main Section Menu Options

Number Of Cuts

NUMBER OF CUTS specifies the number of cuts to be defined. The options run from One to Four.

Cut Options

Each of the 4 possible sets of 1-D Cut definitions have the same set of options. The options for a given 1-D Cut are enabled only if it is within the number of defined cuts:

BEG X is the starting X-coordinate of the of the 1-D cut.

BEG Y is the starting Y-coordinate of the of the 1-D cut.

END X is the ending X-coordinate of the of the 1-D cut.

END Y is the ending Y-coordinate of the of the 1-D cut.

COLOR sets the color used to output the results of the 1D Cut. There are 8 possible colors.

OUTPUT AS defines the display format to use when displaying a 1D Cut line plot. These include:

Option Definition
HISTOGRAM Lines parallel to X-axis are drawn through the data points stretching half the distance to the adjacent data points. Perpendicular lines connect the parallel lines.
LINE PLOT Lines are drawn point to point.
SCATTER Symbol is plotted for each data point.
BAR GRAPH Filled in HISTOGRAM

SHOW CUT defines if the defined 1-D Cut to be projected onto the contour plot and if so how. This is NOT a plot of the intensity along the cut, but simply a line between the beginning and ending X and Y coordinates.

The options include:

Option Definition
NO Do not show the 1-D Cut on the contour plot.
UNDERLAY (W) Underlay the 1-D Cut as a white line.
OVERLAY (W) Overlay the 1-D Cut as a white line.
UNDERLAY (C) Underlay the 1-D Cut using the color to selected to output the data in the 1-D Cut intensity plot.
OVERLAY (C) Overlay the 1-D Cut using the color to selected to output the data in the 1-D Cut intensity plot.

Option Effects

The menu below defines 4 cuts through a contour plot. The plot of the 1-D cuts is below the contour plot and has a height which is 50% of the height of the contour plot.
