THE GEO PLOT APPLICATION

Overview

The GEO plot application is a joint analysis tool used for producing plots of various emissopn intensities observed by the Far Ultraviolet (FUV) experiment on the IMAGE satellite along the DMSP orbit tracks. The FUV intensity data can then be directly compared to many of the DMSP measurements including energetic particle precipitation, and the local ambient ionospheric plasma conditions.

There are three FUV data products which can be used in the application. These are: the WIC (wideband) images, the SI-12 images which are related primarily to proton precipitation, and the SI-13 images which are related to electron precipitation. The application plots first the image with the DMSP orbit track overlayed on top of it. It then will output the emission intensity along the satellite track and up to 3 (user specified) DMSP measurements.

The application is run from a front end User Interface through which all the options are set. The options can be saved and then recalled for later usage. The application is run as: GEOPlot . MenuFile is the optional name of a saved set of menu options. If a menufile is included the GMEPlot GUI menu will be brought up with the entries preset to the saved options otherwise it will be brought up filled with default and empty selections. The options are described in the next section.
