IMP-8 Data Processing System Program
User's Guide
1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The IMP-8 Data Processing System creates an encyclopedia file for
the Cosmic Ray experiment (Experiment Number 52) on board the IMP-8
spacecraft. Decom files, created by IPD, parameter cards, and a file
catalog are input to the program. Encyclopedia files, and an updated
file catalog are the output. When full, each encyclopedia file will
contain three 4-day intervals of data.
Interval numbering follows the same system as IMP-7; that is, interval
number 1 begins at 0000 hours on Sept. 23, 1972. Thus the first data
from IMP-8 will probably correspond to interval 101. The reel sequence
numbers are determined by the interval numbers. For encyclopedia files,
reel sequence numbers are of the form
NNNNNNDUU
where NNNNNN is the number of the file in the series:
number 1 contains intervals 1-3
number 2 contains intervals 4-6
number 34 contains intervals 100-102
D is the duplicate indicator; 0 is an original and 1 is a duplicate.
UU is the update number; when the file is created, UU is equal to 01,
it is incremented by one each time the file is updated or reprocessed.
Thus, if the first interval processed is 101, the first encyclopedia
file will have a reel sequence number of 34001.
