The Plasma Wave Instrument (PWI) on the Dynamics Explorer 1 (DE-1) spacecraft
measured AC electric and magnetic fields, narrow band spectra, DC electric
field, and phase angle using the following receivers: Sweep Frequency
Correlator (SFC), Low Frequency Correlator (LFC), Wideband Analog Receiver
(WBR), Linear Wideband Receiver (LWR), DC Electric Field system. AC electric
field measurements were made from 1 Hz to 2 MHz, and the AC magnetic field
measurements were made over the range from 1 Hz to 400 kHz. The narrow band
measurements ranged in frequency from 100 Hz to 400 kHz. Each PWI file contains
digital data, orbit information, and housekeeping for one full day. Data are
available for the time period 16 September 1981 to 23 June 1984 (when digital
measurements above 100 Hz were no longer consistently available).

The file names take the form of PWI_YYDDD.DAT with
YY: last two digits of the year of the start date,
DDD: day of year of the start date (where day 1 is January 1).
